Questions About Getting Involved
Do I need experience with trauma, mental health, or art to volunteer?
Nope. We provide training and orientation for every role. What matters most is showing up with respect, curiosity, and willingness to learn. Our mental health professionals handle the clinical aspects.
I'm interested but not sure I can commit long-term. Is that okay?
Absolutely. Some roles are one-time (like event support), others are project-based (like design work), and some are ongoing. We'll work with whatever capacity you have.
Can I volunteer if I'm not local to where gatherings happen?
Yes! Many roles are virtual (communications, data entry, research, design). We also welcome volunteers who can travel to support gatherings in different regions when events align with their schedules.
I've experienced trauma myself. Can I still volunteer at gatherings?
It depends. We care deeply about volunteer wellbeing and don't want anyone re-traumatized by this work. Let's have a conversation about your experience, where you are in your healing, and what role might be supportive rather than harmful for you.
What if I start volunteering and realize it's not a good fit?
That's completely okay. We'd rather have an honest conversation than have you feel stuck. Not every role is right for every person, and that's fine. We'll help you transition out gracefully.
Do you do background checks for volunteers?
For volunteers working directly with vulnerable populations (at gatherings), yes. For behind-the-scenes roles, typically no. We'll be transparent about requirements for each role.
